Official inauguration of AXHU-BAIST Laboratory for Aeronautics and Space

After years’ effort of both AXHUers and the Beijing Astro-future Institute of Space Technology (BAIST) people, the AXHU campus is home to the AXHU-BAIST components already.

 

The SHIELD Ceremony was held in AXHU Research Building on the afternoon of Nov 12, 2025.

 

 

 

The attendees include: the BAIST dean ZHANG Shancong and his development groups at its joint research center; AXG leaderships; AXHU executive vice president WANG Li (as the moderator), and the chiefs and academic staff at the schools and departments.  

 

 

 

Welcomed in the midst of applause and cheers, AXG chairman WU Junbao and  ZHANG Shancong marked the special moment, opening an important chapter of the futuristic edifice, and also concluded the two-side consensus that was concreted to the ground by establishing cooperative platform, co-building higher education, and materializing transformation practices so far, which paved the way for effective long-term development resiliently in the domain of Aeronautics and Space.

 

 

 

Moreover, ZHANG Shancong and AXHU vice president WANG Qijin signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement.

 

 

 

And AXG executive president WANG Yongkai announced the list of appointees, primarily including ZHANG Shancong was named as the Lab director; WANG Qijin assumed the role of executive director; and interim positions.   

 

 

 

AXG president ZHANG Ming conferred the ‘AXHU APPOINTMENT Certificate’ on ZHANG Shancong, WANG Qijin, and others on-boarding.

 

 

 

At last, in remarks, AXG vice president, also chairman of AXHU Board of Trustees, WANG Xiaowu congratulated the landmark establishment at AXHU’s key moment, and debriefed the existing feats after AXHU Education and the people’s 2000-25 journey.

 

 

Attempting onto the frontiers, however, he prompted tactically, “the Lab should focus on the edge-cutting AI tech to realize the basic interfaces of the ‘Large Earth Model’ engineering to project some of production-grade applications in the next three years, which must depend on the commitment of all the dedicators to adhere to further integration of university-industry on-site cooperation into high-end operation environments that help empower the national sci-tech strategies like taking the initiative in building the Hefei landscape of Smart City.

 

Thus, as a monument of the earlier time when the People’s Government of Anhui Province administration, according to the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, will continue to coordinate regional development, featuring the Anhui-type highlights to give full play to: the “Science & Technology Innovation Sources; Emerging Industries Clusters; Reform-and-Opening up Powerhouse; and Green Transformation for New Chinese Economic and Social Development.”

 

After that, gather at AXHU Multi-Function Hall to the theme report, “Cognition and Discovery of Large Earth Model,” delivered by ZHANG Shancong, along which many of faculty, students, and staff—generously, being on active display throughout this academic exchange—volunteered their knowledge, time, and services in formulating a general, theoretical framework beforehand.

 

 

 

On the basis of the Lab’s ‘container orchestration’ to promote the integration of top BAIST researchers and AXHU Education providers, in whom the synergistic innovation mechanism should factor, dynamically, to combine their newest research idea with due routes during every concerted-thoroughly process, and, if at all, to generate some of key outcomes in this field, the innovative momentum from both parties’ pathbreaking effort at the highest levels will make it rocket into an ample space for the choicest solutions that would be very possible for predicting multiple achievements out of the tech-driven transformation, resource sharing, complementary advantages, programs development, joint education, while particularly preparing a massive number of younger talent to stay engaged in the industrial evolution in China and internationally.
