// Introduction to AXHU School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing
General Information. Founded in 2020, the precursor of the School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing is the Department of Electronics of AXHU. Through the development of more than 20 years, it has built up a featured educational entity, comprising the Department of Electronic Communication, Department of Electronics, Department of Automation, and Department of Industry Engineering, which covers seven bachelor’s programs: Communication Engineering; Electronic Information Engineering; Internet of Things Engineering; Automation; Electrical Engineering & Automation; Machinery Design and Manufacturing & Automation; Robotics Engineering. The School has formed a promising, proportionally-staffing work team with a commitment of age group, professional title, educational background, disciplines, academic or teaching experience.
The School, remarkably, employed the senior executive of ZTE Corporation as the deputy dean at AXHU, being in charge of the Industry-University-Research projects, and by co-founding the ICT Industry College, the School channels the social facilities and personnel resources to AXHU education, and propels the enterprise to involve in a cooperative education.
Also, the School initiates and puts into practice the educational reform and a betterment of the talent cultivation pattern via “Three-fold Integration, Six-pronged Presence, Zero Distance,”—“Industry-University Co-operation; Theory-Practice Co-working; Learning-Startups Co-building”; “Factual Facilities, Real Setting, Practical Positioning, Effective Processing, Oriented Task, Rational Censorship”; “a seamless connection between talents cultivation system and enterprises’ actual expectations.” In recent three years, being in alignment with the dynamic drive of electronic communication industry, it practically carries out the project-based teaching and academic research, and restructures its curriculum system and practical teaching mode. And consequently, the School has made some breakthroughs in the national or provincial competition for university students (totaling more than 120 provincial-level awards, and 10 national-level awards), such as the “NXP Cup” National University Students Intelligent Car Race, “Siemens Cup” China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge (logic control design and development), and harvests the national- or provincial-level university students’ innovation and entrepreneurship training projects amounting to more than 200, and the graduating students’ employment rate is up to 96.6%. According to the feedback form the employment units, which shows that the AXHU graduates enjoys high comprehensive quality, regarding the professional ethics, dedicated spirit, academic knowledge, hands-on capabilities, adaptability, organizing and networking competence, etc.
Embracing the historical chance of “Internet Plus,” “Industry 4.0” and “Made in China 2025,” in accordance with the overall goal and demands of the local application-based high-level university, the School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing will stay a proactive momentum to blueprint, to team up, and to make breakthrough, and consistently adheres to the quality-oriented educational practice, so as to foster the undergraduate students to become the sound “Crossover” talents with an innovative capability, professional strength, and all-round development.

LI Xiaohui, doctoral degree, full professor, supervisor of doctor’s program, Anhui Provincial Famous Teacher, Recipient of Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award, is also the member of expert committee of the Chinese Institute of Electronics (Electronic Circuit Teaching and Industry), the member of the China Association of Higher Education (Electronic Education, and University Students’ Quality Research), and the vice director of the Electronic Circuit Teaching Research Institute of the Higher Education in East China.

XU Miaomiao, 40, born in the city of Huainan, Anhui Province, doctoral degree, associate professor, joined AXHU in August 2008, and engages in both administration and academic research and teaching at AXHU—sequentially, the secretary of the Teaching Affairs Department, deputy director of the Teaching Affairs Department, deputy director (executive member) of the Human Resources Department, and general secretary of the CPC AXHU Committee of the School of Electronic Engineering/ School of Intelligent Manufacturing and also the executive dean. In recent years, the academic achievements of her are outlined as follows: 1 second-class teaching research project, 1 third-class teaching research project, 1 project of Anhui Provincial Excellent Young Talents Fund, 5 provincial-level teaching and scientific research projects, 1 monograph, 7 research papers, and 1 second prize of Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievements Award.
WANG Qin, 36, female, doctoral degree, associate professor, was born in the city of Zongyang, Anhui Province. In sequence, Wang works at AXHU as the chief officer of the Teaching Affairs Department, assistant dean of the School of Electronic Engineering, and deputy director of the AXHU Assessment and Construction Office. In November 2019, she was installed as the deputy dean of the School of Electronic Engineering. The main academic achievements of her comprise 1 provincial-level textbook, 10 research papers, 5 teaching and scientific research projects of the Anhui Provincial Education Department (director, or member), 2 application-based new patents, 3 awards of AXHU Teaching Achievements, and Anhui Provincial New Star Lecturer of 2016.
FAN Wenqi, 33, male, lecturer, was born in the city of Dangshan, Anhui Province. Sequentially, Fan is in charge of posts at AXHU—chief officer, assistant director, and deputy director of the Publicity Department of AXHU. In December 2021, Fan took office as the deputy dean of the School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing. The main academic achievements of his include 2 AXHU key scientific research projects and 2 research papers.
BAI Zhiqing, 43, born in Jinzhai County, Lu'an City, Anhui Province, doctoral degree, associate professor, first-class technician, assistant dean of the School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing, Anhui provincial high-level “dual qualification teacher,” joined AXHU in August 2020. Currently, Bai takes office as assistant dean of the School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing. CHEN Jing, 37, female, master’s degree (in economics), lecturer, editor, chief officer of the Department of School Journal of AXHU, the School’s secretary for teaching affairs, was born in Lu'an City, Jinzhai County, Anhui Province. The academic achievements of her include 1 provincial-level scientific research project, 2 school-level scientific research projects, and more than 10 research papers (of which, 2 national-level prizes).
WANG Linghui, 31, female, master’s degree (in literature), was graduated from the Anhui Normal University. Wang takes office as the secretary for students’ affairs of the School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing.
WU Meihong, 43, female, bachelor’s degree, lecturer, mentor (intermediate), the School’s secretary for both administrative affairs and students’ affairs as well, was born in the city of Rugao, Jiangsu Province. The School of Electronic Engineering/School of Intelligent Manufacturing currently has more than 60 full-time tenured members, comprising 46 professors or senior engineers (72% of all faculty members) and 18 doctorates (28% of all faculty members). In recent years, the School harvests many of the awards, including 2 recipients of Anhui Provincial Famous Teacher, 5 recipients of Anhui Provincial New Star Lecturer, and 11 projects of “Visiting Scholars in China”. In 2000-22, the faculty and staff members have published more than 220 papers on the journals at home and abroad, and are engaged with over 120 projects of teaching and scientific researches at different levels.
XU Xianfan, male, born in 1957, full professor, supervisor of master’s program, received his bachelor’s degree (in Radio Technology) from the Anhui University (AHU). Xu’s specialization and academic interests are related to the High-frequency Electronic Circuit, Electronic Measurement and Instrument, and otherwise. Historically, Xu participated in an array of research and development programs, including the national critical project of science and technology—Online Intelligent Instrument for Detecting Impurities, the innovative project of science and technology by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)—Remote, Non-Contact Read-Write System of IC Card, and the project of Science and Technology—China Tobacco Machinery: Online Detection System of Shredded Tobacco Leaf Fabric, etc.
Moreover, Xu has directed lots of Anhui provincial-level programs of science and technology, such as the critical project of Anhui Provincial Education Commission—To Recognize Materials via Laser Image, the critical project of Anhui province science and technology—Dynamic Recognition and Sorting System for Special Objective Image, the innovation fund project of the small and medium-sized enterprises by the MOST—Dynamic Recognition and Sorting system of Logistics, which respectively wins the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Awards in Electronic Industry of Anhui Province, the first prize of Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Progress, the second prize of Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievements Award, and the grand prize of the Anhui University’s Teaching Achievements award. And he has published several academic papers on the journals (including international conferences) at home and globally. Currently, Pro. Xu takes office as the director of the Department of Communication at AXHU.
LIU Yongping, born in January of 1964, full professor, also senior engineer, research fellow, certified safety engineer, is studying for master’s degree. Liu’s academic subjects and specialism focus on the instruments and apparatus of coal mine safety, fire alarm, thermal pollution protection, infrared technology, etc., and Liu is engaged with the relevant professional works including the electrification, automation, detection technology, Sensor, and the like. As an experienced academic, he teaches the specialized courses to the undergraduate students, including the Motion Control System, Principles of Microcomputer and Interface Techniques, Fault Diagnosis Technology of Electrical Equipment, as well as Workplace Ethics—Professional Career Guidance and Planning. The teaching and academic research achievements of his consist of the 32 scientific research projects, 6 “Standards”, 20 academic papers, 2 patents, 2 monographs (co-author), and 5 third prizes of provincial- or ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards.
ZHENG Changbao, male, doctorate, full professor, supervisor of master’s degree, executive member of China Electrotechnical Society (of power electronics), member of China Power Supply Society (new energy and electric energy conversion technology), member of Electrical and Information Standardization Technical Committee of Anhui Province, member of Power Quality Standardization Committee of Anhui Province, was born in in 1963 and is a native of Jinzhai County, Anhui Province. Zheng’s academic specialization is of the power electronics, power quality and motion control, and, as the lead technician, he collaborates into the development of the Large-scale Power Quality Control Devices—AVC, DVR and APF (in the category of “TCR+FC”). The teaching and academic research achievements of his include 30+ projects of scientific research of all kinds, such as 1 critical project of Anhui provincial science and technology (director), 1 national key planned project of research and development, 2 prizes of the Provincial- or Ministerial-level Science and Technology Awards, 2 patents (authorized invention), and 50+ academic papers.
CHEN Yehui, born in June of 1984, female, master’s degree (in science), full professor, the outstanding CPC member (of provincial-level Innovation and Progress), Anhui Provincial New Star Lecturer, is graduated from the Hefei University of Technology (HFUT). Chen teaches the content courses—the Principles of Mono-Chip Computers and Applications, DSP technology and Application—to undergraduate students, directs 1 project of Anhui Provincial Outstanding Youth Foundation and other 2 teaching research projects (of which, 1 second-class, and 1 third-class), and wins 1 first prize, and 2 second prizes of the Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievements Award. And She has published more than 20 academic papers (of which, 5 first-class papers), and guides the undergraduate students to participate in the provincial- or national-level contests of 15 (of which, 1 national-level first prize, and 2 national-level second prizes), and compiles 2 planned textbooks of the 12th Five-year Plan of Anhui Province (first author, or co-author).
ZHANG Fan, born in May of 1974, male, doctorate (in science), also postdoctoral research fellow, full professor, senior member of the Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE), and representative of the National Congress of Members, member, also representative, of the Anhui Association for Science and Technology, discipline pacesetter of Information and Communication Engineering, is the recipient of the “National Outstanding Worker” Award and the first prize of the Project Competition for Building Application-oriented High-quality Education of Private Universities in the Yangtze River Delta, and the honor of the Outstanding Contribution Award (reviewer for the journal of Elsevier). And Zhang teaches 16 specialties courses and compiles 14 textbooks (or monographs), publishes 100 + academic papers (more than 50 papers folded into the First-class or Core Journals), takes office as the reviewer with 7 SCI/ EI journals, also member of organizing committee of International Coalition—IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and the chairperson of its subdivisions, earns 25 patents (authorized invention) of all kinds, and undertakes 36 massive projects.
WANG Qing, female, associate professor, master’s degree (in Electronic Circuit and System), a native of Zongyang County, Anhui Province, was born in February of 1986. Historically, Wang takes office as the executive member of AXHU Teaching Affairs Department, the assistant dean of AXHU School of Electronic Engineering, the deputy director of AXHU Assessment and Construction Office, and the deputy dean of AXHU School of Electronic Engineering. Moreover, the teaching and academic research achievements of her comprise 1 provincial- and ministerial-level textbook (co-author), 10 academic papers, 5 provincial-level projects of teaching and scientific research (director, and member), 2 new application-oriented patents, and 3 teaching achievements awards (of Anhui Provincial Education Department, or AXHU), and 2016 Anhui Provincial New Star Lecturer.
BAI Zhiqing, male, born in 1979, a native of Jinzhai County, Anhui province, master’s degree, associate professor (of Electronic and Electrical Engineering), Anhui provincial “senior dual-qualification teacher,” electrician (first-class technician), examiner of electrician accreditation (elementary, intermediate, and senior), mentor of the Masses’ Entrepreneurship Space for Partnerships in the city of Huainan, Anhui Province, several times of acting as the assessor of Intermediate Vocational Skills Competition (of the city of Huainan), has applied for 9 new application-oriented patents (authorized invention) and 2 software copyrights, directs 7 projects of teaching and scientific research sponsored by Anhui Provincial Education Department, publishes 20 academic papers in the areas of teaching and scientific research, and compiles 7 textbooks (co-author). Moreover, Bai has guided his undergraduate students to participate in and win awards of the Anhui Provincial Vocational Skills Competition and Anhui Provincial Internet of Things Innovative Application Contests. The academic interests and specialism of his are of Intelligent Sensing Technology.
YAO Ling, female, born in October of 1984, master’s degree (in science), studying for doctoral degree, associate professor, deputy director of the Department of Communication, teaches the courses, “High Frequency Circuit”, “Mobile Communication,” and “Computer Network”, to the undergraduate students. GE Chuangwen, associate professor, doctorate, born in the city of Chaohu, Anhui Province and in 1968, receiving his bachelor’s degree (in Physics) at the Anqing Normal University, with a continuing education at AIOFM (Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences), is cordially engaged with the teaching and scientific research of higher education. And the academic interests and specialism of his are of the Laser and Optoelectronic Technology, and the Optoelectronic Information Science and Technology, and published dozens of academic papers and research reports.
WANG Yanlin, female, born in June of 1988, master’ degree (in science), associate professor, teaches the courses—PLC and Its Application, Computer Aided Design, Interface Techniques, and otherwise—to undergraduate students, the director-general of AXHU delegation for “Siemens Cup” CIMC—China Intelligence Manufacturing Challenge. The academic achievements of her comprise the 6 projects of teaching and scientific research (director), 7 academic papers (first author), 1 Grant Prize, 2 first prizes, and 1 second prize of the National Competition for University Students (mentor) and other provincial-level awards (mentor), and 5 national- or provincial-level university students’ innovation and entrepreneurship projects (mentor), and 2 new application-based patents (authorized invention) and 1 first prize of the Teaching Contest for the Electrotechnics of Higher Education.
YANG Zhao, female, master’s degree (in science), associate professor, the School’s secretary for academic research, teaches the courses—Detection and Conversion, Virtual Instrumentation, Computer Graphics, and otherwise—to undergraduate students. The academic achievements of her include more than 10 scientific research projects at the provincial level or AXHU (director, or member), the national- or provincial-level university students’ innovative projects of 6 in all (mentor), 2 awards of Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievements and 1 award of AXHU Teaching Achievements, 1 second prize of the National Competition for University Students (mentor), and 1 Grand Prize, 3 second prizes, and 1 third prize of the Anhui Provincial Students Competition (mentor). And Yang, as the first author or corresponding author, has published 8 academic papers (of which, 5 first-class), and earns 6 national patents and wins the second prize of the fourteenth session of AXHU Teaching Competition for Young Teachers.

A Culture of the Academia:
Electronic Information Engineering is one of the “forerunner” specialties at AXHU. In 2006, which begins to enroll undergraduate students and then becomes the Anhui Provincial Featured Major in 2013, also Anhui Provincial Pilot Major for Comprehensive Reform in 2015, Anhui Provincial First-Class Specialization—Branded Program in 2020. Knowing as “Tree-fold Advancement Major” means the high-level faculty, stat-of-the-art and well-equipped laboratory, and outstanding achievements in competition.

At present, the Electronic Information Engineering Specialty has 28 teachers, which, to be exact, includes 21 associate professors (and/or senior engineers), 4 full professors (and/or senior research fellows), 1 member of Provincial-level Famous Teacher, and 2 members of Anhui Provincial New Star Teacher. On the trend of rapidly IT-related development in the city of Hefei, the Specialty launches the discipline building in the Application of Integrated Circuit. According to an official release by the General Office of MOE (Serial No. 7, 2021)—List of Provincial- and National-level First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Units, 2020/2021, AXHU’s Communication Engineering Major is granted the “National-level First-class Undergraduate Construction Unit.” In 2006, this specialized program is launched at AXHU. With a history of evolution in respect to its educational vision, industry-university integration, trend of modern communication technology, as well as transformation and upgrade of the industries in communication engineering, a new model for training talents comes into being, featuring “Three-fold Integration, Six-pronged Presence, Zero Distance,” so as to foster a large number of excellent engineers of communication engineering. After years of construction and development, it has become the Anhui Provincial Feature Major, Anhui Provincial Pilot Major for Comprehensive Reform, and Anhui Provincial Specialized Education Planning for Excellent Engineers. In 2019, it is approved the provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction unit (Two Ten Thousand Initiative, also Double First-class Specialty Planning of MOE). In 2020, it is ratified the national-level first-class undergraduate construction unit, also one of only two universities in Anhui province—Anhui University, Anhui Xinhua University—, by MOE. Being in line with social development and its sharply increasing demands on IoT talents, this Specialty inaugurated at AXHU in 2013, and then enrolled its first 51 undergraduate students in 2014. Space for Experiment and Training
This specialty is nothing but a new branch in the field of information engineering, which needs to reinforce its platform building in process, and is turning to discipline competition and sci-tech breakthroughs. Till now, it has built up a raft of labs, training bases or demonstration centers, including 10 labs for specialized training, 9 labs for specialty-based application, 4 training centers for college students innovation, and 1 Incubator Platform, in which the Experimental and Training Center for IoT is ratified the Anhui provincial-level demonstration training center, and the Experimental and Training Center for Automatic Detection is approved the AXHU-based exemplary model training center.
The IoT is combining with an understanding of “Intelligent Community” and “Intelligent City” to design the Training Base for IoT-based Intelligent System, which consists of over 10 comprehensive applications covering the environmental monitoring, parking management, intelligent traffic lights, intelligent bike sharing, intelligent drainage system, intelligent building, and so on. Plus, it has created an ideal environment where the students can not only complete their own practicums, but also hone themselves going for the sci-tech innovative engagement with discipline competition, such as the Anhui Province Colleges and Universities Internet of Things Application Innovation Competition and the Mono-Chip Computers Design Competition, by which to cultivate and enhance students’ capability of theoretical research, practical application, innovative thinking in the area of IoT.
And the scale of IoT students’ engagement in all kinds of extracurricular sci-tech events or social activities reaches 100%. Moreover, the students earn more than 10 national-level awards and over 40 provincial- or ministerial-level prizes (of the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest, Internet of Things Application Innovation Competition, Mono-Chip Computers Design Competition, etc.) and 44 projects of provincial- or national-level “College Students Innovation Planning,” publish 17 academic papers, and win 12 patents.

While building the specialty, this department ceaselessly drives the university-enterprise cooperation to jointly cultivate the undergraduate students by pooling high-quality resources and strengths on all fronts, such as research institutes, institutions of higher learning and social enterprises, and makes some remarkable breakthroughs in this aspect. And its partner units comprise the central research institute of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd., the SUN CREATE ELECTRONICS CO., LTD., the Tedu.cn/ TARENA INTERNATIONAL INC. (Anhui), the ZONESION (Wuhan), etc., to co-build the bases, labs and courses. Based on the diverse university-enterprise platforms to optimize the “practical link” and to put the training of students’ hands-on capability in place, the entire undergraduate education strictly requires the contractual enterprises to have a whole-process participation within a cycle of four years.
By co-building efforts in such areas, practically, the students can have access to the new knowledge and techniques of IoT-related enterprises, and then graduating students’ edges as for his or her coming career option are improved sharply. Furthermore, the matriculation rate of the students to master’s program always keeps a higher level, and the employment rate also reaches 95% or above. SONG Yuhui, a graduate of 2018, CPC member, was admitted to the master’s program of Computer Science and Technology of Anhui University in April 2018. While studying at AXHU, Song earned 1 third prize of Anhui Province Colleges and Universities Internet of Things Application Innovation Competition, 1 third prize of Anhui Province College Students Mono-Chip Computers Design and Embedded System Application Skills Competition, 2 projects of Anhui Province College Students Innovation Planning, and published 2 academic papers (fourth class) in science and technology. And in February 2021, Song was admitted to the doctoral program of Computer Science and Technology of Anhui University and the academic concentration is the digital image processing.
WANG Qi, a graduate of 2020, received an honor in AXHU Outstanding Student Leader. While studying at AXHU, Wang also earned 1 second prize and 1 third prize of Anhui Province Colleges and Universities Internet of Things Application Innovation Competition, 1 third prize of the eighth session of “China Unicom Challenge Cup” Anhui Province College Students Extracurricular Academic Sci-tech Works Competition, and 2 projects of Anhui Province College Students Innovation Planning. After graduation, Wang lands a job at DHC, a famous IT corporation of China, and is engaged with research and development of the software of optical IoT, being as a member of the research projects of the remote sensing device of automobile exhaust and the portable laser gas telemetry (which is the first all-laser remote sensing product of China, which ranks among the best regarding its comprehensive performance and fills the gaps of China). The Robotics Engineering comes under the framework of the national construction and strategic development of frontier technology, belonging to a cross-disciplinary section which integrates the Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, etc.
Warm-up. The Robot is a resemblance of the bio-function and cognitive patterns of human beings—Its Eyes are like a sensor to capture information via “Detecting and Transforming,” or Its Brain works as the headquarters for computing, control, information processing via “Fundamentals of Mono-Chip Computers and Interface Techniques,” “DSP Technology and Application” and “ARM Processor and Its Application,” or Its Foot is nothing but a machinery equipment or controlled object via “Mechanical Design” and “Electrical Machinery and Drive,” or Its Joints and Muscle are compared to a group of practitioners to carry out information control via “Self-control,” “Environmental Control,” “Computer Control,” “PLC and Its Application,” “Power Electronics Technology” and “Mechatronics Technology” (component courses underpinning the Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge for College Students).

At AXHU, charted in 2019, this Specialty set out its enrollment and became one of the first degree programs in Robotics Engineering structured by the institutions of higher education of China. Versatile Workshops
Based on two provincial-level demonstration experiment and training centers (i.e. Power Electronic Experimental Center and Comprehensive Training Center for Automation) as well as an Experimental Center for Robotics, this Specialty carries out its experimental teaching in process. In particular, the provincial-level demonstration experimental and training centers are respectively equipped with an array of specialized workshops, such as the Circuit Lab, Analog Circuit Lab, Digital Circuit Lab, Power Electronics and Motor Drive Lab, Automation Control Lab, Sensor Lab, Robotics Lab, Automation Lab, Mono-chip Computers Lab, EDA Lab, DSP Lab, College Students Innovation Lab, etc.
For instance, the Robot Lab, which provides a wider range of technical support involving all kinds of industrial robots, includes the advanced DOBOT of China to complete the relevant robot-based experiments, such as handling and carrying, stowing, sorting, image recognizing, 3D Printing, artificial intelligent algorithm, etc., and the one-armed industrial robot training platform and the coordinated training platform, by which to fulfil the production by the complete assembling line or at the industrial robot work station, as well as to drive the development of its derivative product such as writing, transcribing, chess playing, and the like. In addition, while participating in some robot competition for college students to access frontier science and technology, this department purchases some “service robots” such as humanoid robot, wheeled-robot and robotic gripper, which can act as dancing, relaying, intelligent sorting at some competition events.

The Department of Automation includes three undergraduate programs, i.e., Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation, and Robotics Engineering. With an evolution of renewable energy sources in China, it will accelerate its development of solar energy, wind energy, new energy automobile, etc., to replace the fossil energy at scale, and strategically emphasizes the overarching work to save energy and reduce its consumption, which reflects the importance and emergency of New Energy building. To meet the growing demands of the talents in New Energy, the Electrical Engineering & Automation set out at AXHU in 2015, and enrolled its first batch of undergraduate students in 2016. And its concentration is of the new energy and intelligent electrical control, and the specialized knowledge underlines the power generation, power transmission, electrical power system, power transformation, power distribution, and power utilization. In 2019, this Specialty is listed into the teaching reform program of the Anhui Provincial Intelligent Upgrade and Transformation in New Engineering Majors.
Power Grid Management/ Application Server
Data Collecting and Transmitting, via RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), is to link Electrical Power Generation/ Electrical Power Transmission/ Electrical Power Transformation/ Electrical Power Distribution/ Electrical Power Utilization.
Since its running at AXHU, this Specialty has always been keeping pace with the new trend and emerging technologies of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Internet of Things, etc. To uphold the China’s initiative on environmental protection in respect to “Carbon Peak” and “Carbon Neutrality,” via continued innovation and in-depth integration between universities and enterprises, specialized intelligence upgrade and transformation, which is dedicated to preparing high-quality talents majoring in new energy and electrical control in the field of Electrical Engineering.

The technology in Electrical Engineering and Automation is often viewed as the major solution to drive the China’s evolution toward an industrialized and economic society, which, by combining with artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, etc., makes itself become digitized and smart in process.
Under the background of “Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality,” this Specialty should take up a new historical mission. The “China 2021 Report on the Work of the Government” points out, all the sectors should guarantee to realize the initiative through a series of measures being like the development of new energy and the sci-tech innovation. The “2021-2035 Industrial Development Planning for New Energy Automobiles,” as well as the relevant policies and programs issued by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, aims to support and advocate the development of renewable energy, e.g., wind power, electric power, photovoltaic power, and to explore a broader space in the near future. In accordance with the Basic Courses Requirements, Core Courses Requirements, and Bachelor’s Degree Concentration, via structuring a curriculum system comprising the basic module, control and detecting module, electrical power analysis and equipment protection module, and new energy power generation and utilization module, this Specialty is to shore up and lay a solid foundation for the fourfold applications of new energy system in Electric Power Generation, Electric Power Transmission, Electric Power Distribution, and Electric Power Utilization. Moreover, the System gives a greater priority to its practical teaching and learning, which includes a three-dimensional integration with the basic practicum, specialized practicum and innovative practicum, so as to provide the area and arena to strengthen the students’ hands-on abilities, which accounts for 35.1% of the total credits as required for this undergraduate program. Meanwhile, the students are equitable access to the labs every semester and to “4+1+X” disciplinary competition, by which to spur the students to ceaselessly grow their innovative thinking and practical capability.

Anhui Provincial First-Class Major Construction Unit
Preface. This Specialty is principally engaged with the principles and methods of automation control, unit technique, integration technology, as well as the concrete applications of control systems of all types, featuring a combination between control and regulation, between strong electricity and weak electricity, and between software and hardware, and is also an inclusive, multidisciplinary specialty in Science, covering the scientific technology, engineering, liberal arts and management, which is based on the automation control theory and employing the electronic technology, power electronic technology, sensor technology, computer technology and network and communication technology as its tools to help realize the “automatic control” at the different industrial sectors as well as in all walks of life.
This Specialty was launched in 2007 and then enrolled its first undergraduate students. At present, the number of the current students reaches 271. In 2011 and 2015, it was respectively granted the school-level “feature specialty” and the school-level “pilot specialty for comprehensive teaching reform”. In 2019, it became the critical “cornerstone specialty” contributing to the in-process construction of the master’s program in Electronic Information at AXHU. In 2020, it was approved as the “pillar specialty” to support the pioneering demonstration base for training first-class undergraduate talents. And in 2021, it obtained an accreditation from the national authority of professional engineering.

And it resorts to the teaching mode “Six-pronged Presence” and combines with the real-world workplaces of industrial robots, referring to the requirements of Artificial Intelligence and being centered on the robot-powered writing, handling and carrying, Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV), etc., by which to attempt every endeavour for the content courses, so as to realize a seamless connection between academic learning and industrial production and between theoretical cognition and hands-on operation.
And this Specialty has garnered many enabling components for overall curriculum building, of which the 7 courses, i.e., Digital Circuit, Principles of Mono-chip Computer and Interface Technology, Power Electronic Technology, Engineering Drawing, Analog Circuit, Circuit... are granted more than 20 awards or honors in the High-quality Resource Sharing Courses, MOOC, Wisdom Class, Teaching Demonstration Class, and Provincial-level First-class Courses, respectively. Notably, the course “Digital Circuit” is accepted into the Smart Education of China (Higher Education)
Building up Enterprise-level Training Platform
This Specialty has established 1 national-level center for engineering-based practical education, 4 Anhui provincial-level demonstration centers for experiment and training, 5 Anhui provincial-level college students Maker workshops, 1 Anhui provincial-level virtual simulation center, and more than 10 specialized laboratories—the Simulation Electronic Technology Lab, Automatic Detection Lab, Automation-based Comprehensive Training Lab, Electrical Machine and Drive and Power Electronics Lab, Electrical Intelligence Lab, Robot-based Application Lab, etc..
Since 2013, this Specialty has put some phased university-enterprise cooperation initiatives in place, pooling the valuable industrial resources in the city of Hefei or its neighbouring areas, such as the lead enterprise, Growing Power Supply Co., Ltd., by which to carry out the university-industry-research collaborative education, to organize the diversified high-caliber faculty and staff, to equip the training bases with the enterprise-level, high-end facilities, to integrate the specialized courses with the professional accreditation, to introduce the latest rules and standards for talents training, and to make concerted efforts specific for the labs, courses, teaching materials, scientific projects, faculty training, and disciplinary competition.
Exploring the Space of Extracurricular Activities
To today, this Specialty has channeled over 1,500 graduates to the Automation-based industries of China. The undergraduate students at school earn more than 80 National Scholarship or National Encouragement Scholarship as well as over 600 AXHU awards. The scale of the students’ engagement in all kinds of extracurricular sci-tech events or social activities reaches 100%. And the students win over 10 national-level prizes and more than 100 provincial-level prizes at the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest, “Challenge Cup” National University Students Science and Technology Disciplinary Competition, “Siemens Cup” China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge (CIMC), “Freescale” National University Students Intelligent Car Race, etc., earn over 50 national- or provincial-level projects for university students entrepreneurship, and publish more than 10 academic papers.
Fostering High-quality Undergrads
According to its employment data in the recent three years, 67% of the graduates are employed at the large and medium-sized enterprises, such as Gotion High-tech Co., Ltd., Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd., who are mainly engaged with the work relating to technical support, software testing, engineering management, and the like. Besides, the graduating students’ employment rate reaches above 96% and the Specialty-related employment rate is up to 82%, and their salary begins at a minimum of RMB 5,850 per month, which is higher than the monthly per capita income level of Anhui province on average. Shortly after graduation, some graduates step up to the administrative group at the enterprises, while some are admitted to the first-class master’s programs of higher education of China, such as the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT), Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NUST), HeFei University of Technology (HFUT), etc.

—Successfully, a large number of outstanding talents appear in the workplaces, including:
ZHOU Yichen, AXHU graduate of 2013, won the first prize of the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest (Anhui Area) and the first prize of the “Freescale” National University Students Intelligent Car Race (Anhui Area) at school, and then was employed into the Hefei Win Power Co., Ltd. to be engaged with the research and development of DSP software for the off-grid and grid-connected operation of the small-sized Wind Turbine Controller. Nowadays, he takes office as the product manager and senior software engineer and has completed 2 authorized patents for invention, 9 patent applications for invention, and 5 authorized patents for new application.
Tao Ye, AXHU graduate of 2016, won the first prize of the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest (Anhui Area) and the second prize of the National University Students Intelligent Car Race (Anhui Area) at school, and then was employed into the Research and Development Department of the Shanxi Huayee Science Co., Ltd. to be mainly engaged with research and development of the remote sensing detection device for automotive exhaust emission—its comprehensive performance index places in the first ranks, which fills the void in this area of China. While working at the company, he is awarded prizes and honors many times, such as “Advanced Individual,” “Best Progressive Learner,” and the like.
LUO Wencheng, AXHU graduate of 2017, earned AXHU scholarship or national scholarships many times at AXHU. And he was admitted into the master’s program in Control Engineering of the North China University of Technology (2017-22), during which time he published 3 academic papers (SCI, or EI), and received many awards including the Skeleton Scientific Researcher, Outstanding Student Cadre, Graduate Fellowships. In 2020-22, he studied for the doctoral degree of Control Science and Engineering at the Beijing Institute Of Technology, and published 3 dissertations (SCI) and also received its scholarships many times at the school.
ZHANG Pengcheng, AXHU graduate of 2018, won the first prize of the ANHUI PROVINCIAL ROBOT COMPETITION and the third prize of the Anhui Provincial University Students Competition for the Applied Skills of Mono-Chip Computer and Embedded System. Subsequently, he was admitted to the master’s program of the Shanghai University of Engineering Sciences (SUES) and his concentration is involved in the Position Sensitive Detector, Sensor Information Fusion and Automatic Detection Device. While learning at SUES, he chaired the SUES-based innovation project—Robot Gripping Table Tennis Ball Based on Machine Vision. Presently, he works at the INESA (Group) Co., Ltd., and is engaged with the development of Embedded System.

The Department of Industry Engineering was founded in 2011, which includes 2 undergraduate programs, i.e., Machinery Design and Manufacturing & Automation, and Automobile Service Engineering, and which currently has around 600 undergraduate students.

In process, it has constructed complete sets of specialized laboratories—Tolerances Laboratory, Gears Cutting and Mechanism Diagram Laboratory, Machine Parts Laboratory, and Mechanical Motion Model Laboratory—to support practical teaching for the courses in Mechanical Principle, Mechanical Design, Tolerances and Interchangeability. And the rate of the capacity utilization is increasing, while the size of experimental conditions is expanding year by year.

The Machinery Design and Manufacturing & Automation is a multi-purpose, application-based, interdisciplinary specialty, covering Machinery, Materials, Control, Electronics, Computer Information, etc., which inaugurated in 2014 and then enrolled its first undergraduate students at AXHU. Taking into consideration of “Industry 4.0,” the Chinese manufacturing industries themselves accelerate to complete a phased transformation and the intelligent manufacturing is booming and becomes a state-level strategic solution. In 2015, the central government of China initiates a 10-year Action Planning “Made in China 2025,” to evolve itself into a manufacturing power of the world. This Specialty is following up with the development of the Chinese manufacturing industries, and integrates with the cutting-edge productive elements to drive a holistic university-enterprise cooperation on the basis of mechanical structure design, processing and manufacturing. Consequently, it is granted many prizes or programs, including 1 provincial-level project for specialty upgrading and transforming, 3 provincial-level high-quality courses, 5 provincial-level scientific research programs, 5 high-quality courses (at provincial level, or at school level).
Excellent Teaching Team
The Specialty comprises of 15 full-time members (of which, 73.3 % of the members being with the senior professional title, 40% of the members having years of working experience at social enterprises, 27% of the members receiving doctoral degree, 100 % of the members obtaining master’s degree, 73% of the members winning dual-qualification accreditation, and 2 members working as the “guest supervisor” for the master’s program of Anhui University, 1 member receiving the “Famous Teacher,” and 1 member earning the “New Star Teacher”).
And this Specialty invites the researchers, YU Biao and LI Bichun, from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, who team up with AXHU faculty members to conduct scientific research on the control technology of intelligent platform and also apply successfully for several of cross-disciplinary projects, such as the Research on the Accuracy Control Technology of Wheeled-robot Platform, the Research on the Intelligent Handling Equipment Based on the Vans, and the Research on the Major Transforming Technology of Self-driving Vehicles, in which they contribute their share to underpin the disciplinary upgrade and transformation in the fields of Machinery Design and Manufacturing & Automation. Furthermore, the academic staff harvest 22 school- or provincial-level projects in Quality Engineering, publish 40 academic papers in the areas of teaching and scientific research, and earn 42 authorized patents. In particular, their research outcomes help the Hefei Yunjia Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. resolve some practical problems relating to the “accuracy control of the self-driving vehicles” (via over 20 scientific research projects of the research funds totaling around RMB 500,000).
Innovative Cooperation Mode
Along with the Anhui Shangzhan Mold Industrial Co., Ltd., this Speciality co-established AXHU-SHANGZHAN Innovation Class. Featured Undergrads Training
Through years of construction and development, this Specialty itself has become a featured educational entity, which is combining between theoretical system and practical application, driven by scientific research projects and discipline competition, and highlighting the undergraduate students’ progress in innovation capacity. An Initiative for the application-oriented talents training, “Three-sphere Combination and Threefold Competence,” encourages the undergraduate students to proactively act on the scientific research and internships, innovation and business startups, as well as disciplinary competition, by which a multi-tiered educational mechanism, covering technology and skills, engineering and training, and application and innovation, takes shape.
At school, the undergraduate students gradually acquire their specialized capacity to analyze and solve problems, which is adhering to a philosophy of “Practice What You Learned,” through practical activities (including experiment, training, internships, and social events), competition and contests (including the National College Mechanical Innovation Competition, National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest, National College Students Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition, CHINA ROBOT COMPETITION or Robocup open, China “Internet+” College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, “Challenge Cup” National University Students Extracurricular Academic Sci-tech Works Competition), scientific researches (of the teachers-led research groups, Center for Mechanical Innovation, and projects for the university students innovation and entrepreneurship). Historically, the undergraduate students were engaged in a package of specialty-related research projects, such as the Self-driving Car in the Special Surroundings, Automatic Floor Cleaners, Self-driving Track-laying Vehicle, etc., by which to grasp the knowledge in relation to the intelligent control of mechanical structure, so as to make a full preparation for the tomorrow’s intelligent manufacturing.
In total, the undergraduate students take part in 29 projects of the provincial- or national-level college students innovation and entrepreneurship and 6 faculty-led scientific research projects, and publish 13 academic papers (first author), apply for over 10 patents (first inventor), and win more than 47 awards at the provincial- or national-level disciplinary competition or contests.
Employment and Business Startups and Admissions
Generally, the graduating students are channeled to the sectors involving Mechanical Design, Model Design, Mechanical Manufacturing, Production Management, CAD/CAM-based Application, and the like, and are mainly engaged with the work, such as research, design, manufacturing of all kinds of the mechanical and electronic products and the mechanical and electronic automatic control system and facilities, which, to be exact, is closely related with the application of the high-tech products and systems, such as the Industrial Robots, MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System), Intelligent Devices, etc. In recent five years, the employment rate on average is up to 96%, while the admission rate to the master’s programs of the renowned institutions of higher education reaches 10% (such as the Hefei University of Technology, the Beijing Institute of Technology, the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the Zhejiang University of Technology, etc.).

YUAN Zhong, majoring in Machinery Design and Manufacturing & Automation, is the AXHU graduate of 2017. After graduating from AXHU, he was employed by the Hefei Keju Cryogenic Technology Co., Ltd. to be engaged in the Machinery Survey and Alignment-related work at its Plasma Research Institute, involving the modification and assembly of EAST devices, the CFETR-based research and development (of the samples for pre-production), and the production or the verification and implementation of measurement scheme while assembling (for the Procurement Orders of the “Feeder,” “PF6,” and “CC”).
DONG Zhilin, majoring in Machinery Design and Manufacturing & Automation, is the AXHU graduate of 2017. After graduating from AXHU, he was admitted into the master’s program of Mechanical Engineering of the Anhui University of Technology (2017-20). Hitherto, he has been studying for his doctoral degree at the Beijing University Of Technology.
WANG Kun, majoring in Machinery Design and Manufacturing & Automation, is the AXHU graduate of 2017. After graduation, throwing himself into business startups, he became the co-founder of the Hefei HEAN Automobile Drivers Training Co., Ltd., which has a large-scale standardized training fields and is equipped with the well-conceived training programs, high-end facilities, and enabling teaching and learning conditions (including large-scale multimedia classrooms, and Virtual Training Center). Moreover, this unit has convened much more sophisticated professionals and experienced trainers to guarantee the trainees’ learning of success and excellence.
