// Introduction to AXHU School of Urban Construction

 

Founded in 2009, the School of Urban Construction has formally structured 7 undergraduate programs including the Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Safety Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Engineering, and Surveying and Mapping Engineering. Specifically, the Civil Engineering and the Safety Engineering are listed as the Anhui provincial “first-class majors”, Engineering Management the “featured major”, and Architecture the Anhui provincial-level “pilot major in comprehensive reform”.  

 

The School underscores the innovative teaching practice, and has constructed 50 modern labs with a total value of 1.8 million RMB and the floor space of 6,000 square meters, such as the BIM (Building Information Modeling), in which the Architectural Structure Lab is ratified as the Anhui provincial-level key lab, the Training Center for Engineering Surveying is chosen as the Anhui provincial demonstration unit, and the Building Intelligent Training Base is as the AXHU school-level demonstration. Along with large-scale enterprises of more than 20, it builds up a cohort of off-campus training bases. The cooperation with the Anhui Road & Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. brings out a high-level training base for Anhui provincial application-oriented talents in the area of civil engineering. The School sticks to a pattern of application-based talents cultivation via “Training, Teaching, Learning and Practising Driven by Track Events,” and the undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in the relevant discipline contests and competition, e.g., the China Mechanics Competition in Honor of Zhou Peiyuan, CAD (Computer Aided Design) Contest in Eastern China, China BIM Contest, National Challenge Trophy, and so on. Consequently, the graduates’ hands-on capabilities are sharply improved, who are widely applauded by many employment units.  

 

The School has staffed a high-caliber work team, and has full- or part-time academic staff members of 138, comprising 16 full professors and 68 associate professors (or senior engineers)—1 National Excellent Teacher, 2 Provincial Famous Teacher, 1 Provincial-level Academic and Teleological Pacesetter, 1 Provincial-level New Star Lecturer, 17 Dual-qualification Teachers, 3 School-level Outstanding Teachers.

 

The two Master’s programs—the Civil and Hydraulic Engineering and the Engineering Management, are approved as the in-process pilot programs of postgraduate education at AXHU. Moreover, the School has 1 provincial-level teaching team and 4 research institutes and 2 “Innovation Workshops.” In the past three years, the research papers of 316 written by the faculty and staff have been publicly released in China and abroad. Also, it reaps 2 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 Anhui Provincial Social Science Planning Project, 21 scientific research projects sponsored by Anhui Provincial Education Department, as well as undertakes lots of horizontal research projects totaling up to more than 30.    

 

The School of Urban Construction is under the guidance of AXHU motto—Being Virtues; Pursuing Truth; Erudition; Innovation—, dedicating to teaching practice and the cause of the national or provincial “First-class Major.”

// Academic Staff

 

XIE Ruqiang, male, the CPC (Communist Party of China) member, master, associate professor, national first-class certified constructor, supervisor of master’s program, is the deputy dean of the School of Urban Construction of AXHU, also deputy director of the Key Lab of Anhui Provincial Higher Education.  Xie’ academic concentration is of the earthquake resistance of engineering structure and typhoon risk analysis, and the research achievements include 1 key project (Anhui Provincial Excellent Youth Talents Funds), 1 key project (Scientific Research Funds of Anhui Provincial Education Department), 2 projects (Quality Engineering of Anhui Provincial Education Department), 3 projects (Key Scientific Research Program of Anhui Provincial Education Department), 1 project (Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China), 1 third prize (Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievements), 15 research papers (of which, 4 EI), 1 patent, 5 textbooks (author, or co-author).

 

SHENG Xiaopu, born in the city of Qidong, Jiangsu province, and in 1957, male, the CPC member, doctor’s degree, full professor, supervisor of doctoral program, national first-class certified constructor, Anhui provincial academic and technological pacesetter, executive member of the Anhui Earthquake Society, executive member of the Anhui Provincial Society of Vibration Engineering, executive member of the Anhui Provincial Technological Development Center of Prestressed Technology, member of the Experts Committee of Anhui Province Building Energy Conservation and Technology, member of the Experts Committee of Anhui Provincial Building Technology, member of the Experts Committee of Anhui Provincial Construction Industry Modernization, is the dean of the School of Urban Construction of AXHU, also the academic pacesetter in the area of Civil Engineering.

 

Sheng centers his academic research on the performance-based seismic design (PBSD) theory in the engineering structure, high-rise and great span spatial structure technology, and seismic performance of prefabricated building structures, and so on. And the research achievements of his comprise more than 60 scientific research projects, including over 10 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Anhui Provincial Natural Science Foundation, key Scientific Research Funds of Anhui Provincial Education Department, more than 50 crossing research projects, as well as 1 second prize of the Anhui Provincial Natural Science Award, 1 second prize of the Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Award, 1 third prize of the Science Progress Award of Anhui Provincial Education Department, 4 second prizes and 3 third prizes of the Excellent Papers of Anhui Provincial Natural Science Award, 3 national patents, research monographs (the Local Standard in Anhui Province, and the National Standard of China), 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, and 1 third prize of Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, 5 projects of Anhui Provincial Teaching Research, over 70 academic papers published in domestic or international journals, or academic conference (of which, over 20 SCI or EI), 2 provincial-level planned teaching materials.

 

In the 2005-15 period, Sheng had conducted academic touring or academic exchange into the Dresden University of Technology in Germany, Illinois Institute of Technology of USA, Iowa State University of USA, Central Michigan University of USA, and University of Northern Columbia of Canada.   

 

QIAN Deling, female, the CPC member, doctor’s degree, full professor, supervisor of doctoral program, concentrates her teaching and academic research on the science of Civil Engineering, and is also in charge of the evaluation expert for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Scientific Research Funds in Doctoral Program of the Science & Technology Development Center of MOE, Qianren Program, Changjiang Scholars Program, National Science and Technology Bonus Program, as well as the Research and Development Program of National High Technology, who has educated over 60 postgraduates and 4 doctoral students. At present, Qian is the deputy dean of the School of Urban Construction of AXHU, whose academic research is based on the soil-structure dynamic interaction, groundsill basis, tunnel engineering, and slope engineering. And the academic research achievements of her include 3 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Anhui Provincial Natural Science Foundation, as well as about 30 construction programs in subway, tunnel and roadbed, sponsored by the Transport Department of XINJIANG Uygur Autonomous Region, Shanghai Civil Engineering Co., Ltd. of CREC (China Railway Engineering Corporation), CTCE (China TIESIJU Civil Engineering) Group, and over 100 research papers and 2 research monographs, 3 teaching materials, 1 patent, 2 second prizes of the Ministerial- and Provincial-Level Science and Technology Advance Award.

 

JIANG Yalong, male, the CPC member, doctor’s degree, full professor, national first-level certified firefighting engineer, supervisor of master’s program, the Outstanding CPC Member of Anhui provincial higher education, Anhui Provincial Famous Teacher, Anhui Provincial New Star Teacher, Outstanding Teacher of Anhui Provincial Private Education, and also member of the Combustion Institute, Anhui Provincial Education Inspection Commission, AEIC Organizing Committee, Experts Committee of Anhui Provincial Emergency Management Department, Experts Tank of the Fire Safety Technology Center of the Institute of Hefei Public Safety of Tsinghua University, Experts Panel of Hefei Municipal Prefabricated Construction Committee, is the vice secretary of the CPC committee of the School of Urban Construction and the academic pacesetter in the science of Safety Engineering. The academic research of his is centered on the Fire Detection and Trace Gas Detection, and the research achievements comprise of the 36 projects of teaching and academic research at all levels, 1 Provincial-level Teaching Achievements Award, over 40 publicly-released research papers, 2 patents, and 1 textbook.

 

GU Guangjuan, female, the CPC member, master’s degree, professor, national certified constructor, cost engineer, supervisor of master’s program, Anhui Provincial Famous Teacher, AXHU New Star Lecturer and Outstanding Teacher, AXHU Inspector, Assessment Expert of Anhui Provincial Social Organization, Economic Evaluation Expert of Anhui Urban Construction Design Institute, is the academic pacesetter in the science of Engineering Management of the School of Urban Construction. The academic research of her focuses on the Preparation and Detection of New Materials, Project Management, and the research achievements include 25 projects of Teaching and Scientific Research of all kinds, over 20 publicly-released research papers, 5 patents, and 3 textbooks.

 

ZHONG Chen, female, the CPC member, master’s degree, associate professor, intermediate-level engineer, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Urban Construction. The main field of the academic research of her is of the Concrete Structure and Fiber Reinforced Concrete Materials. The academic research outcomes of her include 5 projects of teaching and scientific research at all levels, 1 AXHU Teaching Achievements Award, Excellent Award of the Second Session of AXHU Teaching Innovation Competition, 13 academic papers, and 1 textbook (co-author).

 

ZHAO Li, female, the CPC members, master’s degree, associate professor, Anhui Provincial First-Class Certified Constructor, AXHU New Star Lecturer, AXHU Outstanding Staff, Dual-qualification teacher, membership of the Institute for “architectural ecology”, the core member of Anhui Provincial Teaching Team for “civil engineering”, the director of the provincial-level “demonstration class” for civil engineering, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Urban Construction. The main field of the academic research of her is of the microwave dielectric ceramics. The academic research outcomes of her include the 21 projects of teaching and scientific research at all levels (director, or member), the third prize of AXHU Teaching Contest, 5 projects for the national- or provincial-level innovation training (mentor), 1 textbook (co-author), 1 patent (co-inventor), and 18 academic papers.

 

WU Tao, male, master’s degree, associate professor, First-Class Constructor, Cost Engineer, Master's Supervisor, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Urban Construction. The main field of the academic research of his is of the prefabricated construction, rural building, or anti-seismic property of the seismic-isolated buildings. The academic research outcomes of his include 22 projects of teaching and scientific research at all levels (director, or member), 1 Provincial-level Teaching Achievements Award, more than 20 academic papers, 20 patents, 2 Provincial-level Planned Textbooks (first author, or co-author), and 1 monograph (first author).

 

WANG Feng, male, the CPC member, doctorate, associate professor, master’s supervisor,   Anhui Provincial Excellent Teacher for Mechanics, membership of the Joint-Teaching Association for Graphics and Machinery Foundation of the Military Academies of China, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Urban Construction. The main field of the academic research of his is the computational mechanics. The academic research outcomes of his include 1 project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 key project of the Natural Science Foundation of Anhui Provincial Education Department, more than 10 projects at the national, provincial or military level, over 60 academic papers published on the domestic or international journals (of which, 5 SCI, and 24 EI), 3 textbooks (fist author), authorized practical new patent, the third prize of the Military Scientific Progress Awards, and 6 individual academic reports.

 

JIANG Yaqiong, female, the CPC member, master’s degree, associate professor, is currently working as the director of the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Urban Construction, and is principally engaged in teaching the courses such as the Mechanics of Materials, Structural Mechanics, Basic Principle of Steel Structure and others. The main field of the academic research of her is of the structural performance of concrete. The academic research outcomes of her include 11 projects of teaching or scientific research at all levels (director, or member), 14 academic papers in teaching or scientific research, 2 patents, and 2 textbooks (co-author).

 

TANG Yue, female, the CPC member, master’s degree, associate professor, national first- and second-class constructor, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Civil Engineering, and also chairperson of the third division of the CPC Student Committee of the School of Urban Construction. The main field of the academic research of her is of the structural seismic analysis. The academic research outcomes of her include 13 projects of teaching or scientific research at all levels (director, or member), 2 prizes of the teaching contests (provincial-level, or above), 7 academic papers, 2 national patents (co-inventor), and 1 textbook (co-author).

 

PANG Futing, female, the CPC member, master’s degree, associate professor, master’s supervisor, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Urban Construction. The main field of the academic research of her is of the composite structure. DING Juan, female, the CPC member, master’s degree, associate professor, senior engineer, winners of four consecutive years (2017-20) of the “Outstanding Designer for Landscape Planning and Design” awarded by the Anhui Society of Landscape Architecture, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Architecture of the School of Urban Construction. SHENG Jia, female, born in November of 1986, the CPC member, studying for the doctor’s program, associate professor, is currently working as teaching staff at the Department of Engineering Management of the School of Urban Construction. The main field of the academic research of her is of the resources assessment, and sustainable development. The academic research outcomes of her include 23 projects of the teaching and scientific research at different levels, i.e., 1 key project of the humanities and social sciences research of Anhui provincial higher education (director), 2 Anhui provincial projects of Quality Engineering (director), 1 AXHU Teaching Achievements Award, over 10 academic papers (first author, of which 2 EI), 1 project of the National Innovation and Startups Planned Programs for University Students, 4 projects of Provincial-level Planned Program for Innovation and Startups of University Students by Anhui Provincial Education Department, and some awards and honors achieved by her mentees at AXHU.

In the area of the Architecture, its overall education goal of the specialties and concentrations is to foster many of applied talents, who are qualified in the field of planning, designing, constructing, and managing, as well as the related businesses of landscape architecture unit, real estate companies, and governmental departments.

 

Objective

The objective in general is to cultivate undergraduate students featuring a merit of Moral, Intelligence, Wellness, Esthetic and Diligence, and a spirit of innovation, who can meet the needs of the national development and socialist modernization cause, and grasp the fundamental theories qualified for civil engineer, and basic knowledge applied for designing, constructing and managing, etc., in the field of the landscape architecture.

Facing the front-line engagement of civil engineering, the high-quality applied graduates can take jobs in architecture projects, mainly undertake the construction of bridge, road, tunnel, etc., as well as the architecture design and management.

The specialization is subdivided into two areas:

1) Constructional Engineering;

2) Road and Bridge Engineering

 

Objective

The objective in general is to cultivate the undergraduate students featuring a quality of Moral, Intelligence, Wellness, Esthetic and Diligence, and a spirit of innovation, who can meet the requests of the national development and socialist modernization cause, and grasp the fundamental theories of the civil engineering, and basic knowledge applied for the field work in designing, constructing and managing, etc.. And within 5 years or so, the graduates might develop and become the backbone technician or manager in the field of the civil engineering.

As for the front-line engagement of civil engineering as well as its related sub-sectors, the high-quality applied graduates can undertake architecture projects, mainly concerning the businesses of construction company, real estate company, supervision company, engineering consulting company, construction administration department, engineering cost consultation and management organization, large-scale factories and mines.
