AXHUer excelled at National Exhibition of Fine Arts

On Jun 4, the review board of the Works Collection of Watercolor and Gouache at the 14^th National Exhibition of Fine Arts announced the full list of prize-awarding works, including AXHU School of Art faculty SHENG Jie’s watercolor painting “Iconic Memory on Red Wall” (which will also be displayed in Anhui Art Museum).

Getting started in 1949, the leading extensive exhibition is the China’s only largest-scale, most-popular, high-impact, national-level, comprehensive artistic Carnival to bring together the authentic backgrounds of China artists’ favored themes and attempts, which is held every five years and also serves as “coxswain” steering its future foremost cause in the circle of Chinese fine arts.

Moreover, the governing body has established a rigid selection & nomination system and judging process. For example, with approximately 6,000 works of Watercolor and Gouache joining in the 2024 event nationwide, however, 399 qualifying from the 738 pieces in the preliminary round are submitted to the final stage.

SHENG Jie, female, associate professor, receiving her master’s degree from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, membership of both the Anhui Provincial Artists Society and the Anhui Provincial Young Artists Society.

Sheng’s works are positively recognized by either peer experts or amateurs, regarding not only her unique portrayal style and artistic possibility in contents through the lens of watercolor paintings, but also her own profound understandings of “Art for Life.”
