Recently, AXHU School of Urban Construction faculty LI Yinan and XIANG Cheng attended the SINO-GERMAN SYMPOSIUM on Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA), co-hosted by the Tongji University and the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences.

The world-level academic event from March 17-20 at Tongji University campus brought together more than 50 scholars and researchers of impact mainly from China, Germany, and other regions to probe into the HIA-based solutions and methods to systematic management of cultural and urban landscapes on the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE list.

The three-fold operation plan goes via field-trips to the world heritage West Lake as the symbol of Hangzhou, where they made research into historical culture values of the scenic sites as well as the managerial practices and maintenance solutions, with the seminars conferring with fellow panelists about the identification of heritage value, HIA-based suggestions, and comparative study of Sino-German governance of cultural and urban landscapes, and at the roundtable with which the symposium’s decision, according to case study, shared research outcomes or their own yearslong experiences working in this area, is to clearly reorient a broader strategic blueprint for the contemporary management & development of cultural landscapes.

Alongside a number of the international specialists with expert knowledge and connections in this area, AXHU delegates themselves benefiting thoroughly from the approximately three-day’s investigation and exchange of influences in some forms, reinvigorated a new impetus to subject research to make a mark, and obtained much wider perspectives on pioneering and high-achieving educational science.
