A Family of Glory Shining Through

—Self-Management Action Shaping the Future

YANG Meng-ru 杨梦茹, is a quiet, learned, but vivacious, girl with shoulder-length hair in a ponytail, and the given name of hers, Meng-ru 梦茹in Chinese connotation, refers to a beam of Transcendentalism and Romanticism shining through in the earthly life, delightedly contextualizing the interplay of her “dual personalities” on full display at AXHU community.

The Audit undergraduate student at AXHU School of Accounting and Finance (class of 2023), sports field-goer, “bookworm,” storied writer and also active member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) AXHU committee, is pleasingly seconded an unique cultural identity “Mum Yang” by her classmates. Seemingly, no one can escape from her absolute magnet of whatever she has been engaged in a stark contrast—being either the “trouble maker” with an air of hearty laughter or the defining practitioner with a vision of close-knit network as well.

Sports Star, Bookworm and Writer

The self-management, or self-discipline, has since become a part of her college life from the first day at AXHU. Generously, Yang shares, “The extensive reading can provide historical perspective, expand knowledge transformation and enrich individual spiritual world on a basis of One-Book-Per-Month plan stipulated and executed by herself, while 3-4 hours aerobic training works out every day, such as outdoor long-distance running, indoor body-building exercises and rope skipping (in wintertime), which not only can help stay a higher level of cardiorespiratory fitness, but also refresh mental strain and buffer psychological stress after a day-long academic work in study room.”

“I’m addicted to creative writing with pen and paper at leisure time (as if wandering into a fairy land),” she says. Aside from extensive reading, she regularly keeps diary in handwriting on a daily basis. Today, by the side of her writings (800+ pages)  chronologically placed on her bookshelf, she puts in a soft voice, “For no specially intended purpose, the only thing fascinating me is nothing but a kind of interesting experience over the course of academic career. Personally speaking, as for the competition or contest for students in some areas, which could be applied just like a dashboard.”

Little Sister and Senior Steward

Moreover, Yang also serves as the Class Chair for student life at the School, who has had several years of work experience of the Class Board before (of middle and high school). Upholding the guideline of the National Education Congress, the School adheres to the pedagogical philosophy of “To educate undergraduate students characterizing with Moral, Intelligence, Wellness, Esthetic, Diligence 五育 in the new era,” and puts in place the school-wide philanthropy and advocacy to create humanistic community and ecological landscape (for living area and study room—Hygiene, Green, Culture, Aesthetic 四化 on campus). As a member of the Undergraduate Student Government responsible for the School’s public outreach efforts, she actively brings people together and designs a series of constructive projects for public good, e.g., Peer-reviewed Drive, Festival Gifts, A Time for Recreation, and more, and she also receives the title “Outstanding Stewardship” at the Hygienic Action Plan...within a duration of 4 hours only, ranging from design & planning to providing overview and instructions and instruments for getting involved to task-based managing, 50-member teamwork for cleaning glass panel of the 30 classrooms at the School 4-storied building set out... .

And as assistant mentor, Yang shoulders the notable duty and responsibility to help classmates tackle their problems & questions and smoothly live through the coronavirus pandemic at school in 2022. In her classmates’ hearts, the 20-year-old girl is like both “Little Sister” and “Senior Steward,” also nicknamed as “Mum Yang,” who is dedicated herself to building a cozy, friendly, enabling environment for all the community members with her love, courage and endeavors.

Honorary Merits Shining Through

In late 2022, Yang unfortunately contracted the coronavirusthe viral pneumonia is encroaching on her medical condition—, while facing the fourth-year academic stress (studying for her AXHU bachelor’s degree and prospective master’s program). In consideration of public health and safety, she immediately reports the confirmed case of her to the School administration and then moves into the school-designated temporary medical area kept in quarantine, where she builds a strong confidence to combat negative impact of illness, psychological fear and academic stress and much more, and achieves a new milestone during the extreme circumstances.

And Yang has proactively enrolled in the “CPC History Course” series and receives many awards at the relevant knowledge contests at AXHU. “What a glory! To become a CPC candidate...,” she voices with a kind of holy aspiration and lifetime longing.

By the time Yang arrived at hometown in the end of 2020 (during AXHU’s winter break), the pandemic was spreading by regions. So she bravely undertook the work shift day and night in the chilly winter, serving as a younger volunteer for the relevant prevention and control system (e.g. mask and isolation policy, nucleic acid testing, data-based health screening, medical supplies distribution, and caring for the elderly and vulnerable) of the Community Residents Committee to safeguard the local people’s life safety. Resolutely, “As a CPC member, it’s our honor to serve for the People, for public good and for future development,” she confirmed at a media interview.

Also she told us that her grandpa approximately aged 90 and was a war veteran of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). In her childhood, the glorious veteran frequently mentioned those outstanding military leaderships and heroes pressing forward in the turbulent wartime and passionately invoked their heroic deeds, shining merits and patriotic spirit to educate the next generations grown up in the era’s peace and prosperity. The important facets of the great family bequeathed to YANG Meng-ru and the other young fellows on campus will shine through and shape a bright future. With the 2023 AXHU commencement just around the corner, Yang thoughtfully underscores some words in review on her notebook—“After graduation, to most certainly become a qualified serviceperson enlisted in the PLA, and learning from my dear grandpa, to begin a glorious career serving for our county, our Party and our people...
