AXHUer wins “TAC’s Senior Translators Award”

On Apr 3, 2023, at the awarding ceremony—“TAC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Translation,” “Senior Translators Award,” “Outstanding Foreign Translation Expert Award”— of TAC Annual Conference 2023, which is co-hosted by China International Communications Group (CICG) and Translators Association of China (TAC), AXHU Professor FAN Dongsheng was conferred the prestigious title “Senior Translators Award.”

 

Launched in 2001, the TAC’s award aims to grant those industrious, distinguished, senior translators/interpreters who have made exceptional contributions to drive the China’s translation cause and promote its in-depth international exchange and cooperation in the academic/practical fields of foreign affairs, international communications, social culture, military, science and technology, literature, and every national language. Furthermore, such a hallmark is set in the new era to check out, pioneer and navigate the numerous early-careers/young professionals on the track in the context of cross-linguistic translation and communication between cultures. So far, more than 3,000 individuals have been honored with this renowned translation laureate across China.  

 

Prof Fan, former director of the Department of Foreign Studies of Hefei Normal University, the recipient of the outstanding titles or honors, comprising “Anhui Provincial Outstanding Teacher,” “Anhui Provincial Famous Lecturer,” “AXHU Model Teacher,” “AXHU Excellent Faculty,” and more, special consultant of the Anhui Translators Association, board member of Anhui Provincial Higher Education Working Committee for Foreign Language Teaching, is now named as the dean (also provost) of AXHU School of International Education and serving for the master’s courses and the degree program of Translation at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

 

The academic interests or specialism of his are in the areas of Translatology and Teaching and Research of English Language and Culture, and 20+ papers/research outputs (e.g. The Essence of Translation and The Fundamental Tasks of Translation Criticism, Layers of Culture and Translation Criterion, Of the Fundamental Concepts Guiding Translation Education) have been accepted by some core specialized journals, including the Chinese Translators Journal, the Journal of Foreign Languages, the Foreign Language World. And, as the lead author or co-author, he has written 10+ textbooks (e.g. the Reading for Ideas, the New Energetic English Integrated Course, the introductory chapters of the scholarly monograph entitled Faculty Members’ Personalized Development), published several literature translations (from English into Chinese) based on the original novels, such as “Look Homeward, Angel” (by Thomas Clayton Wolfe, 1900-1938), “Pride & Prejudice” (by Jane Austen, 1775-1817), and completed 10+ research projects (e.g. Research on Curricular Architecture Design of English Majors, the Evolution of Core Element Construction and Training Methods for English Teachers in New Era, and more).
