To buffer the college students’ mental pressure during the time of campus lockdown due to COVID-19 prevention and containment, beef up their psychological immune capacity, and boost the self-confidence to overcome today’s difficulties relating to the threat of COVID-19 epidemic, partnering with the Mental Health Association of Hefei Hi-Tech Develop Zone, the Center for Psychological Health Education of AXHU along with its affiliated work stations at each and every school and teaching unit of AXHU rolled out a package of virtual Mega Classes themed “Being on the Same Boat, WE Are Growing Stronger while Weathering the Challenges of COVID-19 Epidemic.” On April 3, 2022, the first Cloud class went off at AXHU, which invited Ling Chen, the wellness educator, to lecture on the theme-- We are the Love’s Messengers on the Closed-off Campus, in which all the current students attended.

From the psychological perspective, being in a friendly manner, Ling imparts a “toolkit” for interpersonal communication conditioning mental well-being-- reshaping cognitive pattern; effective programming; multidimensional engagement; “cookies” strategies, presents a batch of typical cases to reveal the side-effects of the invalid, aggressive communication characterizing self-centered ethical judgments, biased orientation, dereliction of duty, acting peremptorily, and employs the scenario teaching to guide college students to acquire a good social competence regarding mutual recognition and appreciation in terms of Feeling, Observing, Longing and Appealing, to put the abstract theories into practice in the real world. After that, many college students are still lingering online, and click Like or post their own opinions on the BBS (Bulletin Board System), expressing that this themed lecture online makes us not only be aware of the negative impact of verbal abuse, but also become more sensible and rational to achieve a high-quality interpersonal communication by transforming some inactive communication into a kind of amiable dialog treasuring everyone’s voices, and reflecting on how the contextualized wording or utterances deriving from what they are observing and feeling can foster a genre of empathy or mutual understanding or heartfelt respect to benefit each other in a real sense.

Confronting the COVID-19 epidemic, AXHU is representing a new preamble for the future. This virtual event has a significant reach and influence, by which the students can turn to some effective skills or strategies to exercise a sound interpersonal communication in the closed-off campus, shape their own outlook on life, and brave any uncertainties and challenges in life journey. In the coming days, the Center for Psychological Health Education will continue to release a series of Cloud classes online, covering Management on Psychological Anxiety, Emotional Adjustment, Life Value, and more, so as to introduce a collection of primary-level applied psychological knowledge to comfort their psychological anxiety, reduce their academic stress, and lead a significant life during the period of COVID-19 resurgence.
